Artist Bio -
With backwoods bathed vocals and bona fide southern swagger, Payton Howie is leading the next generation of redneck women. Branded as the ultimate ‘All American Girl’ by Scenes Media, Howie is gaining nationwide notoriety with features from CMT, Guitar Girl Magazine, The Boot, Country Rebel, Fox News, and more. Payton unapologetically embodies the untamed tradition that country music was built on, and she’s hellbent on bringing her own grit to the honky tonk. Not many can say they’ve shared the stage with the likes of Carrie Underwood, and Howie is one of even fewer who can say they were handpicked to do so at the age of 5; while other kids were learning how to ride a bike, she was teaching people to expect the unexpected whenever they hear the name Payton Howie. She has multiple songs featured on several of Spotify’s sought after editorial playlists and her debut EP, “Youngblood”, has attained over 1 million streams. The accompanying music video for "Never Go Home" shows off her non-stop party attitude while the "Freedom" music video bleeds red, white, and blue. Payton has also shared the stage with artists such as Clay Walker, William Clark Green, Pam Tillis, Aaron Watson, Bret Michaels, The Bellamy Brothers, Ian Munsick, The Band Perry, Warren Zeiders, Billy Ray Cyrus, Hunter Hayes, Walker County, Gary Allan, Chris Janson, Jack Ingram, Coffey Anderson, Josh Ward, Laci Kaye Booth, Bryson Gray, Tyler Farr, Honey County, Chayce Beckham and more. Having just released her newest single, "Keep Her Breathing", Payton Howie is prepared to scorch country music with a brand that’s hers alone.

Hey everyone, I have my season three episode 16 guests returning to the show today to get us caught up on what's shakin in her world post interview that was done back in October, I think the 24th of last year. It's Randy Hulsey. With backstage pass radio, you guys sit tight because I'm going to catch up with some new and exciting things from my friend Peyton Howie. And we will do that when we come back.

Adam Gordon  00:27

This is backstage pass radio, the podcast that's designed for the music junkie with a thirst for musical knowledge. Hi, this is Adam Gordon. And I want to thank you all for joining us today. Make sure you like subscribe and turn the alerts on for this and all upcoming podcasts. And now here's your host of backstage pass radio. Randy Halsey.

Randy Hulsey  00:56

Hey, Peyton, yeah, you're back in the hot seat. Yeah, like that seat. I think you're back.

Payton Howie  01:01

Yeah, I guess I guess I do. I guess I do. Well, it's

Randy Hulsey  01:04

been almost four months since you sat in that chair. But I'm glad to have you back.

Payton Howie  01:09

Right. Well, I'm glad that you were willing to have the bag.

Randy Hulsey  01:13

I didn't cast you out when you left. That way. Well, actually, I was trying to think if I don't think any other artists that I've interviewed. I did do one follow up interview with Michael Sweet from striper. But it was on my request. But I think I think you're the first one that said hey, I want to come back on and I thought that was really cool. Yeah, like old enough of the show to want to come

Payton Howie  01:35

with me. That was one of the best interviews I've ever, you know, had the opportunity to do like you just asked the best questions. And it just like talking with you just come so natural. So I was like, This is good. This got to be good. Plus, you know, like, I loved getting to share that. And hearing people's feedback on the show is awesome.

Randy Hulsey  01:51

So I'm blushing. Like, I feel like I need to pay you some money or

Payton Howie  01:56

clarify later. You're out here.

Randy Hulsey  01:58

$5 under the table, right? Well, I think I've seen you once since October. And it was at your show out at dosey. Doe when you and Winston Cook had swapped some songs. It was a great show. I enjoyed that. I met some a couple of friends out there. And so that was enjoyable. I haven't seen I don't think I've ever seen Winston play. I was booking for the fire ant brewery and Tom ball and then a wine bar in Friendswood at the time, and I think I had booked Winston for a couple of those places. So even though we'd never met and I'd never heard his music. I mean, I heard him online of course. But yeah, we have that we have that connection. Right. So

Payton Howie  02:47

he's he's a cool, dude. Yeah, he hit me up. I'd never heard him play before. But you know, so it's actually kind of I love that. When you get to sit and play with someone like after you just met them five minutes before, because the best way to get to know somebody is hearing their songs, you know. So it's, it's pretty cool.

Randy Hulsey  03:01

It's interesting. And I guess you have to learn. I mean, you really don't have to you guys kind of did your own thing. But if you're quick to connect with a personality, you can almost like kind of have this fun banter with off of one another, right? If you connect with them, but how does that work? Like a song swap? Winston dosey doe? He called you? You called him? dosey. Doe called you guys? How did how did that come about?

Payton Howie  03:29

You know, he had the date. And he had messaged me about booking and he was like, hey, like, you know, you want to do this? And I was like, I mean, sure. Heck, yeah, it sounds fun to me, we booked a way out in advance. And it was cool, because I had never had the opportunity to hear any of his stuff until we were sitting on stage together. So that was cool. He hit me up about it. And obviously, I think I've played the dosey doe there. I'd say three or four times now. And I love that, you know, super intimate venue super cool. I've actually gotten to go just on my own time and watch some other artists and songwriters. And just like take it in, you know, atmosphere is great there. It's outside. Anytime I get, you know, offered to play out there. I mean, I'm always down. Yeah,

Randy Hulsey  04:06

well, I did an interview with the Wilder blue there. But it was at the I guess it was at the main the big. The big barn. They call it the big barn. So that was my first time in the big barn. And then when I came to see you it was my first time where you were playing right so totally, I was a dosey doe virgin before that. And it was so it was nice to get to see the facility because so many big artists have played there. Right? It's a really cool listening room. So it is so how how's life how's things like again, I haven't really had the chance to sit down and talk to you but you're healthy. Everything's going good for you. You're picking up you know, post, I guess post holidays things are starting to pick up for you. Oh yeah. About some craziness going on in your world these days.

Payton Howie  04:53

For sure. It's been honestly it's been really good. Obviously, you know, playing a lot of shows and stuff right now. It's kind of crazy. Coming off the holidays, because everyone kind of chills out and just, you know, turns on Christmas music like full blast for like a month. So it's kind of cool to you know, get back into the swing of things New Year. I've got a lot of cool things coming, some big shows coming up and new music of course, that's always that's always my favorite part, you know, the main event, you know, new music coming out very soon for me. So I'm excited about that. And I love getting to be in the studio and recording so I I'm think I'm going to be in the studio quite a bit this year. Awesome.

Randy Hulsey  05:29

Awesome. Well, the holidays, while they can be sometimes drab from the weather and downtime can become kind of boring, it's good to recharge the battery. So you the internal battery. So January rolls around, you're you're ready and charged and you're ready to kind of hit the ground running totally new recordings, all that good stuff that you do

Payton Howie  05:50

exactly. You get a lot of get a lot of writing done in a in the downtime and you get to spend time with family. All the stuff you don't get to do when you're out playing Charles right,

Randy Hulsey  05:59

which spending time with a family can be a great thing. And sometimes it can be where you come from. That's right. That's right. Oh, yeah. I've always been lucky because I've, you know, you hear so many horror stories not to go down a family rabbit hole. But you hear so many. So many stories of people that can't stand to be around certain members of the family or in laws. But I've always been blessed to have a good family that I want to be around. And there's not one that I can think of. It's like, oh my god, I just can't jump. He's coming over today. Like I can't stand. Like, how long are they going to be here? Are they going to leave in an hour? Like I don't want them here anymore. But I I've been fortunate enough to not have any of those kinds of

Payton Howie  06:38

that's good. That always makes the holidays and all that much a lot more enjoyable. Yeah, totally.

Randy Hulsey  06:44

So since you were here, you were nominated for something pretty cool. The T three our music and radio shows new Female Vocalist of the Year. Congrats.

Payton Howie  06:54

Thank you. I'm really excited about that is me. Cool. Yeah. Talk

Randy Hulsey  06:57

to the listeners a little bit about the nomination. How How were you nominated? Like what you're like, I have no idea what it means to be nominated. I mean, I know what it means to be nominated. I've never been nominated. But tell us in your own words. How did all that come about? who reached out to you and told you

Payton Howie  07:12

to be honest with you? I had no idea. I didn't even know. Because I think there's like and forgive me for not knowing I just had I had no idea that that was even a thing for me. I found out someone tagged me in a Facebook post. And like I found out I was a finalist. I didn't even know I was nominated. And I was like I was I was like, you know, okay, this is this sounds like fun. I'm guess I'm going when you're so

Randy Hulsey  07:37

big of a rockstar, you don't even know you just get notified on Facebook. No,

Payton Howie  07:42

no, no, no, no, no, it wasn't even like that. No, it was it had nothing to do that. It was just crazy. Because, you know, like I was with with my guys. You were at band rehearsal. And I said no. And I was like, you know, I got this message. And I was like, wait, I did what it was I had no idea what's going on. But and then my, my, my radio promoter was like, hey, like, you're gonna be there. And I was like, Well, I guess I guess I gotta now you know, I'm going now I gotta see what happens. You know, I had no idea that I had, I had this commitment going on. So I was like, very cool. So then obviously, I was like, Alright, great. Well, good to know. I didn't know I had made it through all these. Like rounds. Yeah, I had no idea. I didn't even know I was nominated. And so I was like, Well, this is cool. And my band was like, alright, guess we're gonna go to this. So they're all you know. They're so cute. They're all getting tables, and we're all gonna go it's gonna be fine. Go to the award show. We're gonna have a good time.

Randy Hulsey  08:30

I did about a walk down the red carpet. And I guess

Payton Howie  08:32

I guess so. I didn't even I was I'm excited. I gotta, I gotta find something to wear anyway.

Randy Hulsey  08:38

Well, let's go shop. And we'll find you something that by golly, well, that's interesting. And I have to assume that T three r would reach out to you at some point in time say, Oh, hey, by the way, you've been nominated blah blah blah, right? Like surely they don't expect you know you to find out by way of somebody else but that

Payton Howie  08:57

they got more important people to deal with. I'm sure I don't

Randy Hulsey  08:59

know. I don't know how much more important they can get the new paid. Oh, no, you're too flattering. Well, how? How many do you have any idea how many people were nominated? Like how many rounds? Did they go through? What

Payton Howie  09:10

I think it was three i i Forgive me for not knowing I think it was three rounds. You know, I don't know much much about it. I just know, I know that people can vote. I know that people can vote you can go on the T three our website and cast your ballots there. So it's been kind of cool. I've been able to be like, Hey, y'all, you know if you know, you want to go go give me a vote. You know, it just been cool. It's been nice to be able to connect with people in that way and be like, hey, like, you know, I'd appreciate this or whatever. But yeah, I didn't even know that I was supposed to be doing that because I didn't even know someone tagged me in a post and I was like, Well, this is really cool. I'm honored. This is great. So that's all I know about it. But I'm excited because you're gonna get to go I've never been to the the award shows up in Arlington, Texas, so I'm excited to be out there.

Randy Hulsey  09:53

It seems like a lot of the a lot of the award shows and I could be wrong. It seems like a lot of them are up in Dallas. Since Denton and around that area, and I'm not sure why that is now that I'm just kind of sitting here pondering it, but I'm wondering if it's because there's a lot of music that comp, well, this is Texas award. So I was gonna say you have a lot of Oklahoma, you know, great singer songwriters out of Oklahoma, but this is a Texas thing. So that kind of negates my theory. But it's interesting, maybe, I don't know, maybe Dallas is just a bigger hub for that kind of thing.

Payton Howie  10:25

But I think it's just the venue, because I know that I think they I think they always have it at Texas live. And I know that you know, at least with like the Texas, you know, regional radio awards and stuff like that, or even the tcma stuff like that. They have it you know, at like Billy Bob's, you know, stuff like that, like, you know, more like I think the venue being able to hold that many people because I like I went to the tcma event, they're up at Billy Bob's and I mean, there was a lot of people there. And I was like, All right, well, I mean, I can understand why they would have it up there. Because I mean, think about it, there's not too many venues of that size that are a central for everybody. So

Randy Hulsey  11:02

that makes sense. Yeah, probably, you know, we're both kind of assuming that we're rounds or whatever. And it's been narrowed down. You know, the whole new female artist of the year has to be narrowed down to a few people, right? Do you who are some of the people that you're up against you? Do you know that

Payton Howie  11:21

there's a few people that I'm pretty familiar with, and all of them are, you know, very, extremely talented, great music, all of them on the radio. So it's been cool to kind of see that I want to I'm actually pretty familiar with is Jordan Rainer. She's like, awesome. I actually got to play whiskey jam with her up in Nashville. So I'm pretty familiar with her. So I'm actually like, you know, really excited to get to network with people and get to just catch up with some people that I've played with before and make new friends and see some old ones. Very cool.

Randy Hulsey  11:47

And that I don't know why this kind of my mind kind of derailed, but not to really bring up the past too much. But you just recently played in Anaheim with a past guest of mine, Presley. Tell Tell me about the show. I

Payton Howie  12:01

girl Perea Yes, I love Presley. She's awesome. We got to play together Anaheim House of Blues for the California Country Christmas show. And that was that was super cool. Because it was kind of like a through the decades theme, okay. And they just brought in a bunch of like the major like country artists out in California to come and do the show. And it was really, really cool. I got to you know, meet some new people and obviously play with some people I've played with before, you know, including Presley, and they kind of gave each of us, you know, certain songs in the decade to sing and then we got to do some original stuff too. So I got to go down there. They had some changes in the show, and I ended up getting to perform a bit more than I thought I was going to so I got to, obviously I performed my original idea. Jalen Jesus and that was really cool to get to do that. Because they have they do it kind of Opry style, where they have this just fantastic band up there. And I got to play with those guys. And they nailed it steel solo. absolutely nailed. So I was really excited about that. Then they had me doing Rebus fancy I got to do and Gretchen Wilson is here for the party. And then I believe Oh, yeah. Then we got to do a trio me and Presley. We got to be part of a trio doing girl crush Little Big Town. So that was that was cool. So I couldn't ask for anything better. It was awesome. And of course, Presley nailed she did like Carrie Underwood's rendition of How great thou Art. And I was like, there's not a single person. I can imagine doing that any better. That was so good. She does have a beautiful

Randy Hulsey  13:26

voice for sure. I I was in contact with Presley, I think it was last week. So I'm going out to LA on the twelth to do an interview, meeting up with a few past guests. And I'm going to try to get out to Norco to get her to sign the same guitar that you signed. I think she's probably she's probably like, 90 minutes outside of LA, right outside of San Bernardino. So I'm there for three days. Hopefully, I'll be able to get out there and get a signature on the guitar. So we'll try to make that happen. But you have a new single that's due out soon called crazy bout her share with the listeners the backstory of the song if you'd be so kind. Oh, yeah.

Payton Howie  14:15

Well, thank you. I'm crazy about her. I'm real excited is coming out February 10, the Friday before Valentine's Day. Ironic, I know. But I think all of us can kind of understand that whole crazy ex girlfriend vibe. You know, the feeling when you see your ex with somebody else. You see your ex and I guess from my perspective, you see your ex with the new girl. And you're like, oh my god, she is not wearing that and I'm just gonna or you're like, you're like, you know, you're checking out her Instagram or you're like, or your ex brings her to the place that y'all y'all used to go to like, and she's thinking, Oh, this is so nice. I wonder where you found this place. I'm like, bro, like, I literally I went I took them there first. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, so it's just kind of like You know, and I think that's something that is really funny to talk about is because sometimes us as girls we get So, you know crazy about the whole x being with somebody else. Like we're not even so hung up on the X anymore. We're more like, but we're focused on the girl or like, I see you, sister. I see you. That's how it is.

Randy Hulsey  15:17

And most of the time you guys are the ones that throw the boy away, and then you're worried about oh, exactly.

Payton Howie  15:21

I saw I saw this funny quote, it's like you never you never want your ex back until somebody else wants him. I was like, that's a layer as a girl as girls can be a little a little kooky as

Randy Hulsey  15:30

well. Well, in all fairness, though, there's there's probably that's a guy's mentality too. You know, we're, we're macho, we're not we're not jealous until you see your girl you have an eyes for somebody else and you're like, hey, wait a minute. Now my feelings hurt. No, it's a human thing. I don't think it's a female or a male thing I think

Payton Howie  15:49

well, I can only I can only pull from my experience I was going to ask you to share us share with me some of your experience so thank you for sharing.

Randy Hulsey  15:55

It's been a long time since I've dated so I really haven't worried about it but I can remember back you know many many years ago you know there was times when you you were dating somebody and you know it didn't work out and next thing you know I wait that's my way you're with my friend Oh no, I'm crushed like I wasn't crushed before but now I am I feel like I'm like second best like to that guy right

Payton Howie  16:22

the eggs and the best friend that's even worse. It's really more of

Randy Hulsey  16:25

a I don't know if it's so much a love thing but it's more of a pride thing like wait a minute he's not better than I am

Payton Howie  16:32

oh man yeah that's that's always trash I've had I've had a couple of how would I say lo exes date my friends and I'm like for Come on now sometimes

Randy Hulsey  16:42

that's done in spite though and it works out right for them but sometimes it's a it's a quick thing to say I got back at you I have the upper hand and then next thing you know they're not even together anymore. Oh yeah, that person or you or whatever. Right? Exactly. We're just humans but I want to play a short clip of the song crazy about her and then we'll come back and talk a little bit more about the song cool All right.

Payton Howie  17:12

That girl better drowning wild locked has given me that's my baby she can't watch a booth kick up killing me a wall symbol and I can't get enough I can't stop the way I'm feeling when she snapped at me see no shirt on ever been busy is crazy

Randy Hulsey  18:04

Okay, cool stuff. But But I detect a little something different in the song versus other songs that I've heard from you. Tell us about kind of the style and the vibe and maybe you know the sound of the new song. Am I right? Am I off base does it know I mean little Yeah,

Payton Howie  18:26

that's exactly kind of what I was thinking. You know a lot of my songs prior to prior to crazy about her have been very and I guess you'll understand this being a musician, very minor, very kind of angry sounding song which is hey, you know, I'm sorry about that, you know, but crazy about her. It's kind of more like a kind of fun, flirty, Honky Tonk vibe kind of song. You know, I'm saying because I know that's kind of the feeling of this song is because me you're you're dancing around it like That's literally how I pictured this song. In like, the in the setting of like, you know, like a neon light Honky Tonk dance floor and you're watching you, you're watching your eggs, dance around with some other girl and you're kind of like making eye contact across the bar and it's just kind of like Danna Anna, you know, this is kind of,

Randy Hulsey  19:12

you're rubbing it in their face like I'm not bothered by this. Whereas the minor the minor kind of stuff almost sounds like hey, I'm over here basking in my pity and yeah, and, and I'm down and depressed and I see you out having a good time where this is more of a hey, I don't give a damn what you're doing. Right? That's

Payton Howie  19:32

exactly yeah, it's kind of like flirty fun, kind of kind of cocky, like Yeah, you know,

Randy Hulsey  19:37

would you say that? This is is this a new music direction for you? Or is this kind of a one off thing? Can you talk about that?

Payton Howie  19:44

I think it's just kind of a different side of what I've what I've done. You know, I think I'm kind of expanding more on what I enjoy doing. Because you know, obviously I love country music. I love rock music. You know in my genre. My Style is country rock. And I think a lot of my stuff in the past has been very very rockin and some of my stuff you know, examples being you know, country before me or Jalen Jesus had been more traditional sounding and I think this is something that I have, you know, kind of got to experiment with is kind of the more you know, upbeat Honky Tonk type type vibe, but still on that, you know, edgy kind of more kick butt type, type type of sound. And I mean, I'm digging it because you know, it's got still got those rocking guitars in it, but it's, you know, a little something you can move your feet to kind of thing.

Randy Hulsey  20:32

Well, I like to use the word evolve. Yeah, and you know, some like the songs you said earlier, a little slower traditional country sounding songs, this is more kind of flare up, be, you know, kind of having a good time, and it's good to have different aspects and moods of the music otherwise, I think you'd become pigeon holed as an artist, like they say, oh, we'll paint and she always does this whatever Right? Or, or Randy only does the melancholy shit like he doesn't he never does the upbeat stuff. And I think that's how artists partially partially how an artist stays relevant is they they're always throw in that curveball, right? You know, talking about a softball. You never know what pitches coming from Peyton, how we which is a good thing. Because it keeps the listeners on their toes. So they can always expect something a little bit different, you know, you never know what Peyton's gonna deliver. Right,

Payton Howie  21:26

ya know, and I totally appreciate that I appreciate your insight, I definitely think that that's something that I've had the opportunity to do, especially like with my EP, we put I put up my EP, and you know, there was a lot of like, you know, pretty rockin tunes on there. And then kind of had, you know, country before me on there as something that was a little more more serious and intimate sounding. And I know that I kind of got a similar response of like, oh, this is a little bit different. When I released Jalen Jesus, you know, very intimate storyteller type vibes. versus something say like keeper breathing, or break my own heart that has, you know, some more drive and rock grit kind of feel to it. And this is, you know, this song crazy about her is something I'm really excited about, I'm excited to see people's reaction to something being a little a little more upbeat, but still got that kind of like, edgy, kind of cocky attitude to it.

Randy Hulsey  22:18

Well, and the upbeat and everything is great, but there was I posted a couple of videos of you from the last interview, and there was a lot of great response to, you know, break my own heart and gel and Jesus that you did live, like right here in the living room. So a lot of nice compliments about about that music. Thank you, did you feel the need? Or did you feel like you had to explore a different direction? Or did this just kind of happen organically and natural to you like this? Just as the way the song worked out? Like, or were you intentionally going, like that?

Payton Howie  22:55

I hear you know, honestly, I it just kind of, it just kind of happened that way. Because, you know, the concept and the idea behind the song was kind of like, already kind of a fun, flirty idea. Like, you know, and I think going about it that way. Like, you know, I'm crazy about her. She's crazy about him, I can't stop the way I'm feeling when she's pulling them in. Like, I feel like that's kind of got this, you know, there's two ways you can go about that concept. You can either be really really sad, or you can be just kind of fun, flirty, like we're dancing around the truth kind of thing. And that's, that's kind of the direction I wanted to go with it for sure.

Randy Hulsey  23:28

Where did you guys record and And who did you record with on this particular single? Yeah, so

Payton Howie  23:34

this song was produced by Jordan Lake at the record shop out in Nashville. It was really cool place really, really intimate, like, cool vibes there for sure. Like I love getting to be in the studio. And it's like, it always helps when like the studio atmosphere is like, just there. You know what I'm saying? You know? Yeah, I love it. You again, they got the incense burning. You're like we're about to make a banger right now. Yeah, that's

Randy Hulsey  23:59

awesome. Well, vibe is everything when you're recording, I think you have to be in the frame of mind to go in and pour your heart into what you're doing. And if you have not a good vibe, or it's just kind of mundane, it's, you know, it's probably a different, you detect that more in the recording versus, you know, a good vibe, right? Yeah, I really can't hear that and what you've recorded

Payton Howie  24:21

that is so true. I definitely I can attest to that. I know like certain songs I even some of the songs you know, that I've released, I can listen back to my vocal or the certain run or, or even even, like, pick out a certain take that I did in a song that they use. And I remember exactly what I was thinking when I was singing it, you know, okay, which is where I know that sounds crazy, but not at all I get it's true. I remember exactly thinking like, what I was feeling when I sang that. Yeah, you know, but it's

Randy Hulsey  24:48

true. And the cool thing is, even though I wouldn't call myself a recording artists, like I'm not doing my own stuff, like that ship has sailed for me, but I can certainly relate to what you're You're saying because I am a musician and I do play live shows. So I can almost think back to a show and say, Oh, I remember doing that Pink Floyd song in my mind was in this space at that time, right? You can, you can almost relate a space to a song and where you are right? That's not That's not totally abnormal. So yeah, you have the new single coming up, of course remind the listeners of the date when that's gonna

Payton Howie  25:23

draw crazy about her is coming out February 10. It's a Friday right before Valentine's Day.

Randy Hulsey  25:28

And but I also wanted to share with the listeners while you're here. information on upcoming shows that you have, you know, what, can you speak up that you got lined up? What's what's exciting? Yeah,

Payton Howie  25:38

we got some really cool, really cool shows coming up. I'm opening up for the Chad cook band at the dosey doe big barn coming up on February 2. So I'm really excited about that one. Gonna be a blast. They're always awesome. And I mean, I'm kind of excited for this one, especially because I've I've opened up for them once before and the first time we I opened up for them, it was at Sawyer Park. And you know, obviously that venue a lot for you know, loud, Rowdy like, Awesome Show, which is great. And dosey DOE is obviously a more intimate kind of collect close quarters kind of kind of vibe. And so I'm really excited to get to see them in that light in here. They're here their original stuff. They just had another number number one on Texas radio, so obviously I'm excited for that show. That's gonna be really cool with them. They're great. And then we're also doing the Texas birthday bash, too. That's another one coming up. I'm really excited about that one that's like, that lineup is insane. It's a Navasota it's gonna be really cool. Okay,

Randy Hulsey  26:33

who's on that bill?

Payton Howie  26:34

Believe it's Aaron Watson's on that bill. Which is cool, because we got to do a couple of shows with him on as well. Got to hang with him a little bit. I know Wade Hayes is on that bill. I believe Kevin Fowler is on the bill too. It's gonna be really cool. There's a lot of really talented artists out there.

Randy Hulsey  26:49

You know, I discovered Wade Hayes probably cash I'm gonna probably say about the time you were born. It's been many years. He did I think it was a cover. In fact, I'm pretty positive that it was Kentucky blue bird. And it was amazing rendition of that song Kentucky. Yeah. So that's kind of where I fell in love with Wayne Hays haven't listened to really much by way of anything new from him. But that was a that was a really good song that he put out years and years ago. So what else in anything else big coming up. From from a show perspective,

Payton Howie  27:30

or from a show perspective? Yeah, honestly, we've got a ton of really cool headlining shows coming up too, which is, which is really great. Obviously, I enjoy getting to play festivals and getting to open up for large names. That's obviously so fun. But I mean, the headlining shows are great too. Like we have a ton of headlining shows coming up we're gonna be we're doing some stuff in Texas, but we're actually you know, branching out a little bit we're gonna be in Louisiana gonna be doing stuff in the surrounding states. I'm obviously gonna be back in Nashville doing stuff like that. So lots of traveling going on, and lots of really cool things coming up festivals coming up in the summer, it's gonna be super cool. Yeah. Yeah, no, we're, we got a couple cool headlining dates that I'm really looking forward to. And just, you know, I have a lot of new music that I'm writing, not just for being in the studio, but also for, like the shows, you know, that's something that I've really tried to do, being that, you know, the guys in my band are just immensely, like talented, like just the coolest group of guys, I just feel lucky to get to share the stage with such talented guys. They're awesome. We're always sitting in, you know, we rehearse up in the, in the living room, I'm in my apartment, and we're always jamming and trying to come up with ways to bring the show to the next level, you know, not just song stop song stop songs that like we're literally trying to, like, what little notes or little just vibes are just kind of just kind of, like, underlying things can we have while I'm like telling a story about a song? Or, you know, how can we go from one song to the next? And kind of bring people in? Or what are how can we change this? How can we change this beat up to like, draw people back in, you know, like, and we've had some really cool responses to some stuff we've come up with, and it's just, every time that we get to step on the stage, I'm trying to, you know, bring an experience to people, not just with original music, but even sometimes, you know, throwing out some covers that people are like, Oh, that's a vibe for, you know, kind of making it our own and doing that. But regardless, you know, I think getting to play shows is got to be one of my favorite things.

Randy Hulsey  29:25

Well, I I think what's set you apart from many is I've tried to put my finger on that you're a great entertainer, right? And you and you write great songs, you're great artists. But sometimes you have an artist that's kind of, you know, local artist or wherever they are, right they're kind of at this level and then you have an artist that's kinda kind of right here and I always felt like and I've told multiple people this I said, Payton's go in places there's something about her and I can't put my finger on it, but you kind of you kind of put Your finger on it for me just now because I think it's the attention to detail. Like when you're working with your band, and I'm not saying that other people don't do this, but just to every little degree, like you're trying to make an experience something memorable, and you're really analyzing how was the show gonna go? How can we make it better? How can we, you know, just pay attention to that one note that segues into something else, man, but I don't know, I'm just kind of kind of rambling here, but you get it like I think you get I think you get out of music and your audience what you put into it. So if you have fast, you know, what you're putting in, you know, your audience, I think will kind of be half baked. But if you're really putting in the work, like it sounds like you're doing, I can see why the people love you. And while they're following you, so kudos to you. Yeah, thank you. I wanted to go back real quick on the music so the new singles coming out in February. Is there anything else from a music perspective that you can or that you would like to share with the with the listeners or is it really just the new single is kind of what to look forward to from the Peyton? How he campers there other things?

Payton Howie  31:15

Yeah. Oh, no, yeah, you got it right on the money. Yeah, I got an obviously crazy about her is coming out. And I'm just crazy excited about that. But I also have been writing I think more than I've ever written in my entire life, and just working on song after song and choosing which ones I want to share and when I want to share them. And I'm just really excited to get to feel like I have the freedom to get to share that. After after already. You know, I've put out my first EP, I've kind of given an introduction to my sound and I just want it to, you know, continue to evolve from there because I feel like, you know, the older I get, and, you know, like, I'm 21 like, I'm I'm already 21 But I'm only 21 You know, I'm saying like

Randy Hulsey  31:59

restored stories.

Payton Howie  32:02

Oh my God, I know, I'm so old.

Randy Hulsey  32:04

Like a dinosaur pate. And you're like, there is like an aeronautical artifact. You're a fossil anyway, what what were you saying? I'm sorry, you're right. I didn't mean to call you names go,

Payton Howie  32:16

No, you're good. I'm saying I just I have this feeling of like, you know, as as I'm getting older as I'm, you know, maturing in life, or I'm, you know, getting to meet people and hear about their experiences and connect with more people and you're how my songs are touching listeners. That changes every time I write a song every time I sit down to write something and I'm just being honest about my feelings. Every time I'm in the studio, I'm always thinking like, obviously, I'm being honest about my feelings, obviously, I'm being honest about what I want to say in the song. And obviously, like, you know, I'm telling the truth, but at the same time, it's like it's just to come in you know, you know, you do it too. It's just like the feeling of getting to share something with people and just be like, you know, someone you have nothing in common with but you touch them in a place it's like yeah, I feel you like I feel that like that is that nothing compares to that and so I'm always chasing that feeling of getting to share music with people enjoy the feeling of getting to bring an experience

Randy Hulsey  33:21

you know, yeah, and I think you're I look forward to new music anything that's coming up and then I know that you have some adoring fans out there that are that are looking forward to anything that you that you really so we look forward to that and you don't know it yet but one of these days you and I will song swap somewhere again, but but we'll figure that out. But you're on the hook. If you refuse then I'll call your manager I know her to and I'll I'll get it. I'll get it approved through

Payton Howie  33:54

sounds like a play. That sounds great. I'm honestly down
